Experimental set up:
Procedure:
Take a ruler.
Press one of the ends on a table with the hand as shown.
Then pull down the other end of the ruler with our other hand and then leave it.
Observation:
The ruler vibrates and we hear a humming sound coming from it.
After some time, the ruler stops vibrating. No sound is then heard.
Conclusion:
The humming sound is produced only because of the vibrations of the ruler. So, we can say that a vibrating body is necessary for sound generation.
