Describe an experiment to show that two positively charged bodies repel each other.

Aim: To show that like charges repel each other.
Things needed: Two glass rods, two ebonite a piece Of silk cloth, a piece Of fur, a wooden stand, and silk thread.
Procedure:

Part A:

  1. Rub a glass rod with a piece of silk cloth and suspend it with a silk thread tied to a stand as shown in the figure.
  2. Bring another glass rod rubbed with a silk cloth near the suspended rod.

Observation: The suspended glass rod moves away from the other glass rod.
Conclusion: Two similarly charged glass rods repel each other.

Part B:

  1. Now rub an ebonite rod with fur and hang it with a silk thread tied to a stand as shown in the figure.
  2. Rub another ebonite rod with fur and bring it near to the suspended charged ebonite rod.

Observation: The ebonite moves away from the other ebonite rod.
Conclusion: Like charges repel each other.
