Solution
Tissue culture is the technique where whole plants can be generated from parts of a plant i.e., explants, in a test tube under sterile conditions in a special nutrient medium. The two applications are: Micropropagation: In this process, large numbers of plants are obtained in a short duration through tissue culture. This can be used to propagate many valuable and commercially useful plants that would otherwise take a long time to develop under normal field conditions.
Production of disease free plants: In this application, recovery of a healthy plant is done from a diseased plant. In the virus infected plant the meristem is free from infection or without pathogens like viruses.
