Sodium(Na) and potassium(K) ions are essential elements for proper functioning of various life processes.Some of their major role:
1.They are primarily found inside the human cells such as nerve cells.
2.Na+ and K+ maintains the electrolyte balance in the body.
3.They regulate the flow of water across the membrane and are required for transport of carbohydrates and amino acids into the cells.
4.K+ is important in heart function as well as in skeleton and muscle contraction.
5.K+ also regulate the opening and the closing of the stomata in plants.
