Phyllotaxy is the arrangement or distribution of leaves on the stem or its branches, that will help them to receive maximum sunlight to perform photosynthesis.
It is of three types alternate, opposite, and whorled.
1) Alternate- In which a single leaf arises from the node of a branch. For example, sunflower and mustard.
2) Opposite- In which two leaves arises from the node in opposite directions. For example- guava and calotropis.
3) Whorled- In which three or more leaves arises from the node. For example, lemonwood and mountain laurel.
