Solution
Pituitary gland:
An organ present at the base of the brain that produces substances that help in growth and development (sexual).
The pituitary gland is divided into three lobes anterior, middle and posterior lobes.
The posterior pituitary gland does not secrete any hormone it only stores and releases hormones secreted by the hypothalamus. The hormone released by the posterior pituitary gland is oxytocin and vasopressin.
Functions released by the posterior lobe of the pituitary:
Vasopressin maintains blood osmolarity and regulates blood pressure.
Oxytocin helps in childbirth and helps in the ejection of milk from the mammary gland.
