Describe how an electromagnet could be used to separate copper from iron in a scrap yard.

1.Make an electromagnet.

2. Take the mixure of copper and iron in a china dish.

3. Bring the elecromagnet near this mixure. Slowly increase its magnetism by increasing the current flow through it.

4. You will see that the electromagnet will attract iron fillings from the mixure.

5. Slowly move this electromagnet all over the mixure, in order to remove all the iron fillings. In the end, you will be left with iron fillings separated from the misure, and copper will be in the china dish.
