Genetically modified crops are produced by genetic manipulation which
means the incorporation of desirable characters in an organism (crop
plant) by various methods such as hybridization, mutation, polyploidy
and DNA recombinant technology. The latest recombinant DNA technology or
genetic engineering involves transfer of one or more genes (i.e., DNA
fragments) from one plant to another. The plant in which the foreign
gene has been introduced is called genetically modified plant.
