Question

Describe how to calculate the density of an irregular solid with the help of a measuring cylinder?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Take the object whose density is to be measured and weigh it.
  2. Now take the measuring cylinder and fill it with water.
  3. Note down the level of the water. Let it be L1.
  4. Tie a thin thread around the object and immerse it completely in the water inside the measuring cylinder.
  5. The level of the water in the cylinder will rise.
  6. Again note the level of the water. Let it be L2.
  7. Find L2-L1. It gives the volume V of the irregular object.
  8. We know that density is mass per unit volume.
  9. Thus the density of object = MassVolume
