Describe I-shaped electromagnets.

  1. We can define an electromagnet as a temporary magnet that produces magnetic field when electricity is passed through it.
  2. It can be either U-shaped or I-shaped.
  3. I-shaped electromagnet is a thin insulated copper wire wound on a soft iron bar in the form of a solenoid.
  4. To make an I-shaped electromagnet a soft iron bar PQ is wounded with a thin insulated copper wire around it.
  5. Connect a cell or a battery B and a key in the coil.
