Mitochondria is a double-membrane cell organelle. The inner membrane of the wall protrudes into the interior in folds and forms structures called cristae. The space between cristae is known as the matrix.
Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. It produces energy in the form of ATP.
It is responsible for cellular respiration, a process through which it generates energy in the form of ATP.
It is a semi-autonomous organelle. It has its own DNA and ribosomes and synthesises its own proteins.
