Question

Describe the chemical reaction occurring in Atmosphere.

Open in App
Solution

In stratosphere, UV light reacts with O2 producing nascent oxygen.
O2(g)20(g)
O2(g)+O2(g)O3(g)
again, ozone absorbs less energetic UV rays and cleavage occurs, thereby giving O2 and O.
CFC's are also present in atmosphere because of the refrigerant and propellants used . As CFC's are volatile, they do not readily undergo chemical reactions, they persist in the atmosphere for long.

CCl3F(g)CCl3F(g)+Cl(g)
Cl(g)+O3(g)Cl(g)+O2
ClO(g)+O(g)Cl(g)+O2(g)

All these reactions occur in the atmosphere.
