The circumstances that led to the beginning of the Russian Revolution are as follows:​

• Autocratic Rule of Czar: The Czars of Russia enjoyed the uncontrolled power over their subjects. If anyone demanded for any rights, he was tortured and severely punished. Unchecked Czardom became the cause of misery among people. ​
• Poor Condition of the Peasants: At the beginning of the 20th century, more than 85% of the Russian population were practicing agriculture. The Russian peasants were not paid fairly despite working very hard. Hence, their condition deteriorated, and they became poor. ​
• Poor Condition of Workers: Most of the industries were controlled by the private individuals who exploited the workers despite provisions made for the welfare of workers. Most of the workers were working for more than 15 hours a day. ​
• Unemployment: Unemployment rates were high in Russia. Workers formed associations and unions to fight against exploitation. ​
• High Prices: Prices of essential goods rose so quickly that real wages declined by 20%. This led to widespread dissatisfaction amongst the working class of Russia. ​
• Condition of Women: Women workers accounted for almost 31% of the factory labor force. They were paid less wages than the men and were forced to work for very long hours.
