Solution

Instructions:
  • What are forests?
  • What are the different types of forests?
Solution:
A forest is an area with a large number of trees and undergrowth
  • Tropical evergreen forests are also called tropical rainforests. These forests are found in the regions near the equator and close to the tropics. This region receives heavy rainfall throughout the year therefore known as the rainforest.
  • Tropical deciduous forests are also known as monsoon forests. They are found in parts of India, Northern Australia, and Central America. Trees shed their leaves in the dry season to conserve water.
  • Temperate evergreen forests are located in the mid-latitudinal coastal regions which are mainly found along the eastern margin of the continents. E.g., South-East USA, South China, and South-East Brazil.
  • Temperate deciduous forests are located towards higher latitudes and are mainly found in the North-Eastern parts of the USA, China, New Zealand, Chile, and coastal regions of Western Europe.
  • Mediterranean vegetation is located on the west and the southwest margins of the continents. This vegetation is mostly found in the areas around the Mediterranean sea in Europe, Africa, and Asia
  • Coniferous forests are also called taiga. They are mostly found in the higher latitudes of the northern hemisphere. Here, the trees are tall, softwood, and evergreen.
