Open in App
Solution

Reflex arc

  1. Reflex arc is the sensory mechanism that controls a reflex action.
  2. Automatic response to the action of a stimulus is called reflex action.
  3. All these responses do not involve the action of the brain.

Composition of reflex arc:

  1. Sensory receptors - receive stimulation and in turn connect to other nerve cells that activate effectors which perform the reflex action.
  2. Interneuron - adjustor nerve cell.
  3. Effector -receiver organ

Action of reflex arc:

The sensory cells carry the input from the receptor impulses to a central interneuron, which makes contact with a motor neuron to produce a reflex.

Example: Reflex arc indicating the neural pathway controlling a reflex
