The early Indian industrialists not only shaped the industrial development of India but also were in fore front in liberating India from the British occupation.
We see Dwarkanath Tagore setup six joint companies in Bengal between 1830s to 1840s. Then people like Jamsetji Tata set up cotton mills in Nagpur and Bombay. His son Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata founded the Asia's first and largest steel company at Jamshedpur. Another business tycoon, Seth Hukumchand started the first jute mill in 1917 in Calcutta. G.D Birla also invested in various sectors and later shifted to manufacturing sector. In this way, without any government support, it were these early industrialists who on their own shaped the industrial development of India.
