Destructive Distillation of Wood:

Chemically, charcoal is a carbon (C). Charcoal is mostly used as domestic fuel. It is obtained from wood. When wood is heated in the absence of air, it loses its volatile components and moisture and gets converted into charcoal. Thus, charcoal is obtained by destructive distillation of wood.
