Watson and Crick suggested that in a DNA molecule there are two such polypeptide chains arranged antiparallel or in an opposite direction that is one polypeptide chain runs in 5'-3'direction and other in 3'-5' direction.The two strands of the double helix are antiparallel due to a phosphodiester bond.The polynucleotide chain has a sugar-phosphate backbone with nitrogenous bases directed inside the helix.
