The events leading to the unification of Italy were

1. During the mid-19th century, Italy was divided into seven states. Only one of them, Piedmont-Sardinia, was ruled by an Italian price, Victor Emmanuel II.

2. The movement to unify Italy was led by Count Cavour, the Prime Minister of Piedmont-Sardinia.

3. The message of nationalism was spread in Italy by a society called Young Italy, led by Guiseppe Mazzini. The society was formed in the 1830s.

4. The military struggle for unification was led by Guiseppe Garibaldi, who led a large number of volunteers.

5. By 1861, all other states had been defeated by Piedmon-Sardinia leading to the unification of Italy. Victor Emmanuel II was proclaimed the king of Italy.
