Solution

Cinnabar (ore of mercury) means HgS (mercury sulphide).

  1. Concentration of ore - this involves grinding of her and separating the unwanted dirt from it.
  2. Roasting of ore - as the ore is of sulphide then roasting is to be done this involves the heating of sulphide ore in the Presence of oxygen to form metal oxide and Sulphur dioxide. HgS + O2 - HgO + SO2.
  3. Further heating - as Mercury is a low reactive metal hence we can heat it’s oxide to separate them. Means 2HgO+ heat - 2Hg + O2.
  4. Now the Mercury contains some chemical impurities which can be separated by the process electrolyte refining and hands then the Mercury will now the Mercury contains some chemical impurities which can be separated by the process electrolyte refining and then the Mercury will be separated from its Ore cinnabar.
