Flight adaptations in the birds

  1. Birds' bones form a strong but lightweight framework.
  2. This is accomplished by hollowing the surviving bones while fusing and removing some of the others.
  3. A few vertebrae and pelvic girdle bones have been joined.

Flight adaptations of the birds:

  1. Forelimbs are modified into wings.
  2. The body is covered with an exoskeleton of feathers.
  3. Long bones are pneumatic having air cavities.
  4. The body is streamlined to reduce air resistance.
  5. Well-developed flight muscles.
  6. The presence of air sacs helps in double respiration.
  7. Tail feathers form a steering apparatus.
  8. They have acute vision.
