Describe the function of different types of flower.

Flower:

  1. Flower represents the reproductive part of a plant body.
  2. It is most important part meant for multiplication of species.
  3. There are four sets of whorls in flower namely: calyx, corolla, androecium and gynoecium.

Calyx:

  1. Calyx is the outermost whorl composed of green, leaf like structure called sepals.
  2. Sepals encloses inner part of flower and protect it in a bud stage.

Corolla:

  1. Corolla is the second whorl composed of petals.
  2. Being brightly colored petals attract insects for pollination.

Androecium:

  1. Androecium is the third whorl and represent the male reproductive part of flower.
  2. It consist of two of two parts: anther and filament.
  3. The anther produce a powdery substance called pollen grains.

Gynoecium:

  1. Gynoecium is the fourth and innermost whorl of the flower.
  2. It represents the female reproductive part of plant and consist of stigma, style and ovary.
  3. The Ovary contains many ovules.
