Open in App
Solution

Eustachian tube:

  1. It is a narrow tube made up of elastic cartilage.
  2. It is the part of the middle ear that connects the middle ear to the throat.
  3. The eustachian tube’s main function is maintaining/ equalizing air pressure on either side of the eardrum.
  4. The eustachian tube protects the eardrum from loud noise which could cause damage to the ear drums.
  5. Blocking of eustachian tube impairs hearing.
  6. The eustachian tube opens only during yawning and swallowing so that the air enters or leaves through the pharynx such that the pressure is maintained in the middle ear.

Hence, the function of the eustachian tube is to maintain air pressure on both sides of the eardrum so that it does not rupture.
