It is also called as cell membrane.
Function of plasma membrane :
It acts as a physical barrier that separates the cytoplasm from the extracellular fluid outside the cell and protects all the components of cell from outside environment.
Plasma membranes are selectively permeable i.e. only certain molecules can pass through them.
It facilitate communication and signaling between cells.
It plays an important role in endocytosis and exocytosis.
It serves as base attachment for the cytoskeleton in some organisms.
