The functions of political parties are:

1. Political parties are the representatives of the people in a democratic election.They form the government on behalf of the people.
2.After coming to power, political parties develop policies and programmes for the welfare and benefit of the people.
3.Parties select and recruit people for various government and legislative office.
4.Parliamentary democracy cannot function without political parties.The party which gets the majority vote forms the government and the minority party forms the opposition.The opposition exposes the drawbacks and inefficiency of the running government and makes public conscious.
5.It is only through the propaganda of political parties published in newspapers, magazines and journals that people come to know about their programmes.So the medium of press and media is used by political parties to educate the public.
