Describe the functions of village panchayat .

Local self government at village level consists of a three tiered structure. This includes the Gram panchayat, the Panchayat Samiti and the Zilla Parishad.

Some of the functions of village or gram Panchayat are as follows:
a.Implementing agricultural development
b.Supplying drinking water
c.Construction and maintenance of roads
d. Development of cottage industries and cooperative societies
e.Running schools in villages
f.Starting Primary Health Centers.
