Legs of a cockroach:

  1. The cockroach comprises a pair of jointed legs which are present on the ventral side of each thoracic segment.
  2. They can run and walk with their legs.
  3. The five segments of the legs are the coxa, trochanter, femur, tibia, and tarsus.
  4. Coxa is short and articulates the legs with the thorax.
  5. Trochanter articulates freely with the coxa.
  6. The strongest segment is the femur.
  7. Bristles are present in the slender and long tibia.
  8. Tarsus is the last portion of the leg and has bristles.
  9. The first four segments of the tarsus are known as tarsomeres.
  10. A small adhesive called planulae is present on the tarsomere.
  11. The last segment of the tarsus is known as pretarsus.
  12. A pair of claws are present on pretarsus and is known as arolium.
