Solution

Instructions:
We will start the answer by explaining what is NATO, followed by explaining the Warsaw Pact and the alliances formed as a result of that.

Solution:
NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is the military alliance formed between the United States and its European allies to resist Soviet aggression in Europe in 1949. To counter NATO, the Soviet Union organised the Soviet bloc countries for united military action, under the Warsaw Pact. In December 1954, a conference of eight nations namely Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Poland, Romania and Russia took place in Moscow following which they concluded the treaty on May 14, 1955. A joint command of the armed forces of the member countries with headquarters in Moscow was setup. The pact was dissolved in 1991 following the disintegration of Soviet Union.
