Peripheral nervous system of cockroaches:

  1. The peripheral nervous system of cockroaches comprises all nerves arising from the nerve ring and ventral nerve cord.
  2. The supra-oesophageal ganglion gives rise to a pair of optic, antennary, and labro-frontal nerves.
  3. The eyes are innervated by optic nerves and antennary nerves by the antennae.
  4. The labro-frontal nerves get divided into a labral nerve which supplies the labrum and a frontal nerve which joins the sympathetic nervous system.
  5. The suboesophageal ganglion gives rise to a pair of mandibular, maxillary and labial nerves that innervate the mandibles, maxillae and labium.
  6. A pair of nerves arise from each thoracic segment and innervates the thorax.
