Following are the powers of Election Commission of India

Election Commission of India have wide ranging powers and it is an independent body and enjoys the same kind of independence that the judiciary enjoys

Its powers include:

• Deciding on very aspect of conduct and control of elections from the announcement of elections to the declaration of results
• Implementing the Code of Conduct and punishing any candidate or party that violates it
• During the election period, ordering the government to follow some guidelines, to prevent use and misuse of governmental power to enhance its chances to win elections, or to transfer some government officials.
• When on election duty, government officers work under the control of the EC and not the government

Functions of Election Commission of India

1. Demarcation of Constituencies.

2. Preparation of Electoral Rolls.

3. Recognition of Political parties and allotment of symbols.

4. Scrutiny of nomination papers.

5. Conduct of polls.

6. Scrutiny of election expense of candidates
