Solution

Dear Student,

The powers of the Governor of a state are

1. Executive power: The Governor appoints the chief minister of a state and the council of ministers remain in power at the pleasure of the governor. All executive work in the state is carried out in the name of the Governor but real executive power is exercised by the chief minister and the council of ministers.

2. Legislative power: The Governor summons the legislative assembly and can even dissolve the assembly. The governor, upon the advice of the chief minister, can also promulgate ordinances when the assembly is not in session.

3. Financial power: The budget of the state is laid out before the legislative assembly in the name of the governor.

4. Discretionary power: If in the opinion of the governor, there is breakdown of constitutional machinery in the state, he or she can impose President's Rule in the state.
