• In human beings, internal fertilisation takes place.
• From the vagina, sperms moves towards uterus and reach the oviducts where the ovum is released and if present, sperm fertilises the ovum to form a zygote.

Development of embryo:

• After fertilisation, the zygote undergoes mitotic divisions to form a ball of hundreds of cells called an embryo that sinks into the uterus.
• The embryo is embedded in the thick lining of the uterus and this process is called implantation.
