In human beings, internal fertilisation takes place.
From the vagina, sperms moves towards uterus and reach the oviducts where the ovum is released and if present, sperm fertilises the ovum to form a zygote.
Development of embryo:
After fertilisation, the zygote undergoes mitotic divisions to form a ball of hundreds of cells called an embryo that sinks into the uterus.
The embryo is embedded in the thick lining of the uterus and this process is called implantation.
