Describe the process of neutralisation with the help of an example.

Open in App
Solution

When definite amounts of acid and base are mixed, they neutralise each other forming salt and water along with the evolution of heat. This is called neutralisation.
For example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide neutralise each other forming sodium chloride and water. The reaction can be represented as:
Hydrochloric acid + Sodium hydroxide Sodium chloride + Water + Heat
