Question

Describe the relative positions of Earth, the Moon and the Sun during a total lunar eclipse?

Open in App
Solution

An eclipse occurs when an object in space comes between the Sun and a third object and casts a shadow on that object. A lunar eclipse occurs when the shadow of the Earth falls on the Moon. Total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow(umbra) obscures all of Moon's visible surface.
