• The Chauhan dynasty of the Rajput clan rose to power during the 7th and 8th CE. The initial area under their influence was the region known as Shakambhari near Ajmer in the beginning of 8th CE. ​
• King Ajayraj ascended the throne in 12th CE and formed the city of Ajaymeru, also known as Ajmer. Later as their power grew, the Chauhan dynasty captured Delhi from the Tomars and established their supremacy. ​
• One of the most prominent Chauhan rulers of this era was Prithviraj Chauhan. He was known for his valour, leadership and bravery in the face of adversity. He fought two battles against Mohhamad Ghori and even defeated him in the first battle. ​
• The valour and achievements of Prithviraj Chauhan were compiled in a book written by Chand Bardai known as Prithviraj Raso.
