• Graphite in the extraction of Aluminium mainly is used as an electrode as it is a very good conductor of electricity and it has a very high melting point.
• It prevents the liberation of Oxygen $\left(O_2\right)$ so that the Aluminium doesn’t get oxidized by oxygen.
• Graphite acts as an anode during the process of electrolysis and its main role is to prevent the formation of $O_2$ at an anode .
• ${\mathrm{Al}}_2{\mathrm{O}}_3$ reduction is made easier by Graphite as anode.
