Graphite in the extraction of Aluminium mainly is used as an electrode as it is a very good conductor of electricity and it has a very high melting point.
It prevents the liberation of Oxygen so that the Aluminium doesn’t get oxidized by oxygen.
Graphite acts as an anode during the process of electrolysis and its main role is to prevent the formation of at an anode .
