Dear student,

Sporophyte is a phase of life cycle in pteridophytes . It is the asexual or diploid stage of plants belongs to pteridophyte life cycle. The spores under the favourable condition shed from the sporophyte and then develop into the gametophyte. The fern plant or sporophyte generation composed of three major parts that is the leaves, the stem which bears the roots and the fertile parts with sporangia. The spore mother cells within each sporangium undergo meiosis results in the production of four haploid spores each.
