Striated muscles:
Structure:
Striated muscles are made up of long fibres (cells) which are multinucleated and striated light and dark bands run across the fibres.
Location:
Striated or skeletal muscles are attached to the bones. These muscles are found in the arms, legs, face, neck, and many more.
Function:
They help in the voluntary movement of the body.
Unstriated Muscle or Smooth Muscle:
Structure:
The cells of smooth muscles are long with pointed end (spindle-shaped) and uninucleate. These muscles do not show any dark or light band. Hence, they are called as unstriated muscles.
Location:
They are found in the walls of intestine, iris muscle of eye, lining of blood vessels, urinary bladder, and many more.
Function:
The involuntary action of smooth muscles helps in many process like: movement of food in alimentary canal, contraction and relaxation of blood vessels.
