The transverse section of the spinal cord shows the following details:
1. It is surrounded by three meninges- outer dura mater, middle arachnoid mater, and inner pia mater.
2. White matter is outer and grey matter is internal.
3. Grey matter is H-shaped due to two dorsal horns and two ventral horns. The dorsal horns reach to the dorsal root of spinal nerves and the ventral horns reach to the ventral root of the spinal nerves.
4. Grey matter is made up of cell bodies of neurons, relay neurons, and the glial cells.
5. White matter is made up of myelinated axons.
6. 31 pairs of nerves arise from the spinal cord.
7. In the middle, there is a central canal that contains the cerebrospinal fluid.
