• The Tughlaq dynasty was established in 1320 by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq who was succeeded by Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq.
• Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq after coming to power shifted the capital from Delhi to Devagiri which was later renamed to Daulatabad.
• The main objective was to protect the capital from continuous Mongol invasion but later on the capital was shifted back to Delhi.
• He also introduced the system of token currency under which the silver and gold coins were replaced by bronze coins which had the same value of the silver coins.
• Eventually, people started making bronze coins at their homes and trade started to suffer due to which the the token currency was withdrawn.
