Describe the establishment of the Tughlaq dynasty.
Explain the transfer of capital under Muhammad–bin-Tughlaq.
Explain the introduction of the token currency.
Solution:
The Tughlaq dynasty was established in 1320 by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq who was succeeded by Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq.
Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq after coming to power shifted the capital from Delhi to Devagiri which was later renamed to Daulatabad.
The main objective was to protect the capital from continuous Mongol invasion but later on the capital was shifted back to Delhi.
He also introduced the system of token currency under which the silver and gold coins were replaced by bronze coins which had the same value of the silver coins.
Eventually, people started making bronze coins at their homes and trade started to suffer due to which the the token currency was withdrawn.
