Dear student,
Lipids are various types:
1. Simple lipids : These are esters of fatty acid with varius alcohols. They are two of types
(a) Neutral or true fats: These are esters of fatty acids with glycerol. They are also called glycerides.
(b) Waxes : These are esters of fatty acids with alocohol oher than glycerol.
2. Compound or Conjugated lipids : These are esters of fatty acids with alcohol, but contains some other some substances also. They are of 4 types:
(a) Phospholipids : which have a nitrigen containing base and a phosphate group in addition to fatty acids and glycerol.
(b) Glycolipids : which have fatty acids ,an amino alcohol and a carbohydrate.
(c) Lipoproteins : which have lipids and proteins.
(d) Cutin and Suberin
3. Derived lipids : These are lipid like substnces such as sterol or derivatives of lipids e.g steroids, terpenes and prostaglandins.
