Five main branches of biology are

  1. Morphology: Morphology deals with the study of the form and structure of living organisms. The study of the external form and structure of an organism is called external morphology. The study of the internal structure of organisms is called internal morphology or anatomy.
  2. Histology: The study of tissues of organisms with the help of microscopes is called histology.
  3. Cell-biology or Cytology: Cytology includes the study of the structure and function of the cell.
  4. Molecular Biology: Molecular biology deals with the study of different complex organic molecules, e.g. the structure of various proteins and enzymes, carbohydrates, fats, nucleic acids, and hormones.
  5. Physiology: Physiology deals with the study of various vital activities of organisms, e.g. photosynthesis, nutrition, metabolism, respiration, movement and growth.
