Desert plants like cuctus have spin like leaves why ?

Cactus has spines instead of leaves because to conusume water in hot deserts.Water vapour is produced by the process of photosynthesis.This water vapour is given off to atmosphere by the process of transpiration by the stomata under the leaves.As to consume this water they modify their leaves as spines so that the process of transpiration doesn't take place & the water is saved.
