Solution

Sperms of Pteris and Funaria

  1. Sperm from both Funaria and Pteris are simultaneously released near the archegonia.
  2. However, only the sperm of Pteris easily enter the archegonia and reach the egg.
  3. This is because Pteris archegonia release a chemical malic acid.
  4. It attracts its own sperm for fertilization.
