Consider the ratio of 10 and 5.
$10 : 5 = \frac{10}{5} = \frac{10 \div 5}{5 \div 5} = \frac{2}{1}$

Now, consider the ratio of 20 and 10.
$20 : 10 = \frac{20}{10} = \frac{20 \div 10}{10 \div 10} = \frac{2}{1}$

The two ratios are equal.

If two ratios are equal, then the values or numbers are said to be in proportion. Thus, the numbers 10, 5, 20 and 10 are in proportion.
