Question

Determine The amount of potential energy of a 5 Newton book that is moved from the ground to 3 different shelves on a book case. The height of each shelves is 1 m 1.5 m and 2 m from the ground

Open in App
Solution

the PE is calculated using the formula energy = mgh

where
m = mass of the book
g= gravitational constant
h = height

here it is given that mg = 5 N for that book

so we just need to multiply the height

PE at 1m = 5 * 1 = 5 J

PE at 1.5 m = 5 * 1.5 = 7.5 J

PE at 2 m = 5 * 2 = 10 J
