Question

Determine the area of the given circle if the area of a square grid is 2 sq.cm ?

Open in App
Solution

In order to find the area we have to count the number of squares fully filled, more than half filled and less than half filled.

Number of squares fully filled = 1 (marked as green)
Number of squares more than half filled = 4 (numbered from 1 to 4)
Number of squares less than half filled = 4 (Remaining squares)

Area = Number of squares fully filled x Area of a square grid + Number of squares more than half filled x Area of a square grid +Number of squares less than filled x 0
= 1 x 2 + 4 x 2 + 4 x 0
= 10 sq.cm
