Question

Determine the coordiantes of the centre of a circle whose diameter has endpoints (4;-1) and (-6;7)

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Let the coordinates of centre of circle = (x, y)

Then by using mid point formula,

x = x1 + x22 and y = y1 + y22where (x1, y1) = (4, -1) and x2, y2 = (-6, 7)Now, substituting these values, we get,x = 4 + -62 and y = -1 + 72 x = -22 and y = 62 x = -1 and y = 3

Therefore, coordinates of centre of circle = (-1, 3)
