Destruction of α cells in Islets
Insulin-dependent diabetes is due to the destruction of the beta cells (secrete insulin) in the Islets of Langerhans. This causes decreased insulin production, leading to elevated blood sugar and hence, diabetes mellitus. Treatment for this is to provide supplemental insulin. Blood glucose level charting is done to determine the exact dosage required for each patient.
