Question

Diff btw theory of spontaneous generation and abiogenesis...also work of Urey Miller comes under abiogenesis or biogenesis?

Solution

Abiogenesis is the idea that life can emerge from life if given billions of years, on one of billions of planets, each with billions of gallons of water with the right organic ingredients, energy sources, and environmental conditions

Spontaneous generation is the idea that life is *constantly* springing from non life every single day. It says that things such as mold growing on bread, to bacteria growing in soup, to flies emerging from rotting fruit, are all examples of "everyday" generation of life.

The main point is that it is quite easy to create an experiment that disproves spontaneous generation (the everyday emergence of life), but nobody has yet thought of an experiment that could disprove abiogenesis

The theory or law of biogenesis was proposed by Louis Pasteur. He proposed that all life originated from pre-existing life. In 1953, Urey and Miller conducted an experiment to prove this theory.
